Not all of us start our music careers at a young age, like so many musicians have. Sometimes you grow up loving music, but never really think about the possibility that you could be the one creating it. Actually, a lot of people don’t realize what a strong desire they have to write music or play an instrument until they hit their adult years; but by then it might feel too late to start something that seems so difficult. In reality, it is never too late to start creating music, and you should never feel unable to do so simply because you didn’t start learning in those early years of development. Music is a universal language that we as people seem to have a natural understanding. That means it can learned by anyone at anytime! Doesn’t matter your age or situation, if that music is in you; all you need is the tools to let it out!
In order to start that promising music career, you kind of need an instrument. Most people start with a piano or an acoustic guitar. Piano’s are great, as they give you the best visual representation of the workings of music. . .but I am going to be focusing on acoustic guitars, as they provide a very simple basis for songwriting. Many would argue that the acoustic guitar is the easiest instrument to learn the basics of song structure, and upon learning one instrument it is easier to branch out into others.
There are A LOT of different types of guitars, and unless you do a crazy amount of research, the choices are going to be overwhelming. When starting out with a guitar you might not want to spend a thousand bucks on one of those beauties hanging up top, but you also don’t want to get some dinky little toy with mediocre sound quality. Fortunately, there are quite a few options out there that strike a balance between affordable, and high quality; and these are the guitars I want to bring to your attention today. Hopefully it helps make this first step a little less daunting.
So this fella was actually my first guitar (or at least a newer model in the line)! When you are first starting out, I doubt you will care much for the subtleties in sound quality between guitars, but know that Yamaha is brand that you can trust. Yamaha leads the market in high quality music gear, and even their cheaper guitars can be relied upon for great sound quality. From my experience, the FG800 sounds like any good guitar should, and its body is easy for newbie hands to navigate.
I’m sure you’ve heard of Fender guitars yeah? They’re known for making some pretty famous models, and of course Jimmy Hendrix played a Fender himself. So yeah, Fender has a notable pedigree when it comes to electric guitars, but their acoustics are just as good. The CD-140S is a guitar made specifically for beginners, it has a built in pre-amp, tuner, and volume controls for recording, looks beautiful, and provides a rich tone that will give other guitars a run for their money.
Not to be Confused with the GIBSON HUMMINGBIRD, which is by no means an affordable guitar. . .But I don’t know how much you make so you do you. Epiphone is a brand that is actually owned by Gibson (some of the best guitars you’ll ever find), but creates more affordable guitars; still Gibson approved quality. The Epiphone Hummingbird shares its appearance with the glorious Gibson Hummingbird so it’s quite the beauty. The sound probably isn’t as comparable considering its counterpart is ten times the cost, but the build is the same and the sound is very high quality regardless!
Ovation Applause Balladeer
I wanted to throw in Ovation guitar’s (as in innovation. . . or standing ovation. . .or both) as they are a pretty unique brand. These guitars are built with thin necks, and a shallow, synthetic bowl for the body surrounding its wood front. These fellas provide a unique sound and look, while emphasizing comfortability with its design, and their Applause comes at quite the affordable price. It also has a built in pre-amp so, of course, if you find yourself in a performance situation you are good to go!
In an effort to keep it simple, lets keep it to these four choices. Though there are a lot of guitars to choose from, these are undoubtedly some of the best you’re going to find for greatly affordable prices! Once you have your guitar you have the tool to let those songs out! And IIIII want to help you even further.
