Jumping Into the Deep End of Influencer Marketing: Learning to Swim with the Social Media Sharks

Scrolling through your Instagram and Facebook feeds can sometimes feel like wading through a sea of advertisements. Every third or fourth post is a sponsored ad peddling wonder creams, weight loss teas, workout programs, or whatever. Also, your favorite celebrities are cashing in; using their platforms to push products. And for good reason!

Social Media is the new frontier for how we shop. Every year billions of dollars in retails sales are generated through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.  People are not only researching established brands and engaging with them on social media, they are discovering new brands.

But jumping into retailing through social media can often seem overwhelming. How can I make money if I don’t have a huge following? How do I let people know about my business without seeming pushy or constantly “selling” to my friends? Do I have to spend hours every day creating and distributing content to stay relevant? IS THIS EVEN WORTH IT?

 

The answer is YES! Social media is a great place to build your personal or business brand, create and engage with an audience, and make money. The great thing about social media is that you don’t have to be Insta-famous to generate revenue on the platforms. There are a few tips and tricks that we have learned from building online fanbases for musicians that can work for you and your business.

Step #1 – Learn from the Experts
