Tell us a bit about yourself. Where you come from, where you’re going.
I was born in Buffalo New York. I resided there until my teens when I left home in search of whatever at 16 years old. You know we know so much at that age. But back then in the late 70s, time were different, opportunities abounded and I dropped out of school to see what I could do in the world. I traveled around a bit until I came back home and moved into downtown Buffalo at 20 to pursue a mortgage banking career which blossomed and I was offered advancement opportunities down in Florida. So I subsequently transferred to Orlando in 1986 and ended up loving Florida. My family had all moved down to the Port St. Lucie area and I moved here in 1986 and have been here since with the exception of some fun interludes in Tennessee and North Florida. Port St. Lucie is and has been home and has been an excellent place for inspiration and to continue my music career.
What have been some of the biggest influences for you and your music? Where does your inspiration come from?
In my formative years (god that makes me sound old) it was Genesis, Floyd, ELP, Yes, Supertramp, Vangelis. Then as I got more refined (yeah…keep telling yourself that) it was Kitaro, Jim Brickman, Secret Garden, Enya, Enigma…just to name a few. I have always been a fan of classical music and the expansive compositions of old will always keep me interested.
As for my inspirations, they come from many, many sources, including family, friends, places I’ve been, the weather, moods, dreams, you name it. As for my favorite part of the process, it’s the ah-ha moment. Just playing around and something new emerges from the depths and I get all excited to continue working it until it’s a composition I finish and enjoy playing.
Conquer Entertainment Review – Conquer Entertainment blog offers online review of albums, events, music technology, and any next big thing that’s out there in the music industry.
For those who haven’t heard your music, how would you describe your sound in one sentence?
John P. Olsen from New Age Music World said it best: Dramatic instrumental music set to cutting edge electronics.
With the direction the music industry is headed, how do you think Conquer stand out from the rest?
It is very important to be both a business man and musician in today’s environment. I had extensive marketing, business and design experience before I decided to make my music full time. I still had a lot to learn and still am learning. But that background allowed me to DYI and be successful at it.
Now, without the likes of the companies like Conquer who can open more doors for budding artists, it’s very hard to do everything yourself. It can be done, but in my opinion, it’s much more fun and wise to have good business & musical partners along for the ride.
I see so many musicians out there who think they need to get signed. Personally signed can be the kiss of death in some instances or loss of your control in others. Good music partners are the key to making it work though. Whether it be distribution, legal, promotional, tour management, etc, so you can focus on making and perfecting your music.
Do you have any advice for fans trying to make it in music?
It’s a tough environment out there. Most people don’t make it. And those that do have many obstacles. First and foremost, I do all of this for myself. I love my music and it makes me feel better and gives me a sense of purpose for me. That’s how I have always done it. The fact, that I have won many awards from it and have people who like to listen to my music, makes it all that much better.
Got any upcoming events or projects we should be excited for?
I’ve starting working on my 10th and 11th CD’s for 2017. I will be coming out with a New Age / Contemporary Instrumental CD called “Once Upon A Time” and it’s time for my 2nd Christmas/Holiday CD which will be called “Chill Out Christmas Too”. It’s going to be a fun year. Who knows maybe I’ll finally be able to get out and tour with the right management.
