Musicians, the silver screen awaits! Ok, maybe not silver, but a youtube screen can be just as amazing. What am I talking about? Your music in independent feature length or short films, web series and tutorials. Not all indie films are dull, terribly lit and awkwardly silent while two people stare at each other or one of them stares out the window until the credits roll; leaving you realizing that was probably an hour of your life you’ll never get back.
These days there are more filmmakers out there than ever and something interesting happens when it comes to putting scenes together. The filmmakers imagine what music would go into that scene. One could be listening to your music right now and that is what is inspiring them to write a script. How do you get in touch with these filmmakers? Easy, they are probably the folks running around videoing your band and others playing shows. Another way would be to google casting calls in your area and state. For smaller films, the casting director is probably the director of the film too. Say “hi.” Send them a link to your music. You never know what could happen. The filmmaker could submit their film to festivals across the country and beyond. If that happens, you may end up with national exposure.
In the southern United States, a bulletin board used quite often is The Southern Casting Call. For a more national one, take a look at Backstage.com. There may be more localized ones in your area focusing on your state in particular. Get your music out there. Get Conquer.
